Life Hack Money Saver | Undergraduate Courses in High School

In an effort to be more efficient with time, I thought I’d check out Miss Moe’s academics already offered in high school (she’s definitely a case study for me, and I have a strong vested interest in my case subject). What I found for Miss Moe can likely be found on any county school website in the United States. study-1968077_1920

I looked at all of her options in academics, and compared them to available CLEP tests and what AP courses meet her interests. I love Miss Moe, but she’s not a STEM kid, and I’m going to honor her interests as I try to guide her through these next few years. She plays the viola in the school orchestra and takes Spanish class so there isn’t a lot of wiggle room in her elective courses (at least for the first couple of years). And, she’d rather pick up Daisy Mae Moe excrement in the backyard than go beyond geometry in math (none of the Moes are particularly gifted in this area).

So, if I ask her today – she wants to attend a California college or university. This can (and likely will) change about 1,000 times before applications are sent and campuses are visited, but for the purpose of this exercise I looked at the transfer credits accepted of both University of California San Diego and San Diego State University (because if you’re going to be a poor college kid – may as well be in one of the most beautiful places in the world). I hope that the policy for UCs and State colleges throughout California are the same…. UCSD is not as generous with credits as SDSU, so for purposes of cost of tuition and the amount of credits accepted, I sure hope that a state college is where she’s headed. The state college will accept up to 33 credits through tests (outside of the AP courses), so that’s pretty generous!

This doesn’t include anything to be studied for over summer. I plan to offer her a deal (basically pay her) to take some CLEPs or Dantes tests over summer break to get even further ahead. More on that later….
